A 3 piece, Pinebender's guitars are big and fisty. One guy plays an ubercool baritone guitar, for that extra ball wiggling low end. Their style is slow and pensive, and they know when to kick it in or make it clean and pretty. The drummer holds up his end of the deal, keeping rock-steady time, although he plays a bit dry for my taste. They're noisy, but not sloppy. Think more like early Soundgarden rather than early Bardo Pond. The guitars hit their chords cleanly and with purpose, before the notes get blown to hell through ample distortion. And it makes a difference. If you're, well, old like me, and like old-skool "grunge" and emo, then this is for you. In fact, check it.

Btw, Northsix is "closing" and their last show is tonite. I guess the guy that owns Bowery, Irving, etc... bought it up and is re-opening it under the gay-ass name "Rock Club of Williamsburg". Whoof.
