HUB_BRAKEARM_SIDE_PROB.jpg

WHEEL_ALIGN_PROB.jpg

As the bike started to wear in, I had slippage with the rear wheel slipping forward on the drive train side in the dropouts, which resulted in the wheel butting up against the frame and anger.

I finally took it into the shop, and they replaced the axle and the nuts which had been stripped from this process. On the ride home from the shop, it happened again. They "fixed" it a second time, and told me that there wasn't much more they could do for it. They pointed out that the riding style (lots of stop and go) leads to high torque and referenced some of the newer Internal Geared Hubs that have an axle with flat ends, like this one. The problem was, they said, is that they didn't know of anyone that sells such an axle that would "fit" the Torpedo. They were reluctant to grind down an axle for me, but said that if i could find one, it could be held in place with slotted washers like these below.

MKS Chain Tensioners.

MKS_TENSIONER_1.jpg

I bought a pair of these MKS Chain Tensioners, thinking they may be a solution to my drive train problem for my White Bike. Of course, they don't fit.

Although this information is no where to be found, the cavity, i.e. female section of the tensioners will accept a dropout thickness of up to 5mm. The dropout thickness on my Bare Knuckle frame is just over 7mm. Regardless, they're really fucking nice. They adjust via Allen wrench, which is kindly included alongside the wacky Japanese instructions.

New Back Wheel.

NEWBACKTIRE.jpg

Last week, someone was kind enough to hit my bike while it was locked to a pole, bending the rear wheel and knocking it out of the dropouts. It was really windy that day, so I'm sure that explains what happened to the note they posted on my bike -- the note that says how sorry they were and that they would replace the wheel for me. It had to be the wind.

The new rim is a Black Velocity Deep V. Also, notice the black spokes. Appearantly, Velocity has new rim "colors" that include mostly really cheesy patterns. I hear the patterns are printed to a film that is heat shrunk on the rim which is why you can only get the non-machined variety. Gay.

(A really sad, sad image after the jump...)

DRUNK_EURO_TRIO.jpg

Hello, I noticed that there were no comments on this blog, which is hard to believe because it is so discussion worthy.

Upon investigation, I realized that there is a "log-in" process required, and despite my love for using the word "log" as much as possible, I've disabled it.

So you lazy fucks should be free to comment at will. Next topic? See above image.

Q-TIP - New Music Video - Man Woman Boogie

This track jumped out at me from Scruff's set. I sorta forgot that Q-Tip released a solo thing late last year. The only thing sassier than this bass line is your mother's attitude before it made me step.

Remember Mr. Scruff?

MRSCRUFF.jpg

Mr. Scruff Is a Manchester based Ninjatune DJ and producer, whose older releases are some of my favorite, especially the Chipmunk/Fish/Happy Band Single.

He rocks, and was kind enough to Play at Danny's once for the meager fee of $200 and drinks. His sets are known to span musical genres while moving the feet -- to this end, he'll spin on up to 4 turntables at once, and I would guess incorporates some digital shit in there as well.

In any case, my boy pointed out a great streamable set on BBC's Radio 1. Pretty cool that they include the track listing (holy shit, it's mostly his stuff!), although I'm sure it's done to keep the lawyers happy... Scroll it down to the bottom and see that Ellen Allien is playing on Feb 21. The InterWeb is The Future, but now!

Mexico.

I am very excited to be visiting Mexico for the first time. I'm going at the end of the month.

You may think that I'm just going to party and hang out at the beach, but you would be wrong. There is alot more to Mexico than just being a beautiful, "fun-loving" country. Mexico is also a cultural Mecca, and artistically second to none.

I pull for Liam Sullivan, but not in a gay way. I think he's funny, and haven't seen anything from him in awhile.

My friend sent me this, and it is amusing to me. I guess it's originally from "Superpoop.com".

I was very honored to be invited to submit work for Chicago-based Book Band. My work was published in Book Band 4 and the book is available for purchase at Lulu.

5 talented artists contributed work. I especially like Narcio's and Marian's stuff.

It's Fucking Cold Out...

FRONZEN_DETROIT.jpg

If you live where it is cold, you'll find yourself in the month of February. It's fucking cold. And if you like to ride bikes at this time, then you need some appropriate gear.

I never really had a good "face and head" solution for winter riding, and I ride with a helmet. What's a brother to do? I recently invested in Gore's Bike Wear WindStopper Helmet Cap and Gore's Bike Wear WindStopper Face Warmer.

Saturday Night Live -- Jan 31 2009

SNL_SET.jpg

My friend was kind enough to hook up tickets to see the show, courtesy of Kristen Wiig.

I had written a bunch of shit, but fucking MT locked me out and I lost my entry despite it's "Autosave" feature.

Basically, I said that we had shit seats, but whatever, and that the studio is very small with the first act sets arranged outermost. These sets are broken down and stowed as the night goes on.

Steve Martin was good. Jason Mraz, on the other hand, should be beaten because he makes bullshit acoustic white reggae and writes songs about loving his friend. And he winks at the audience during his set.

Also, Kristen Wiig rules -- she is super talented and also very sweet and down-to-earth. Thank you again Kristen for hooking us up with the show -- you were very generous to do so and we had a great time.

And, are you in the greater NYC area? If the answers were "yes" and "yes" then you should call Allison Rutberg.

Speaking of Great Festivals...

BONAROO.jpg

Here's another awesome festival for you to consider this summer, especially if you missed The Boss' stellar Superbowl performance.

I won't waste my blog real estate post posting their flyer, but if you'd like to mosey down to farmland 60+ miles south of Nashville, mid-June and see the likes of Phish, Erykah Badu and Elvis Costello "Solo" with a bunch of "hippies" then this is for you.

Or perhaps you'd prefer "The Bamboozle" in beautiful East Rutherford?

I've asked myself the same thing several times, most recently last Friday Night/Saturday Morning.
