Remember Mr. Scruff?

Mr. Scruff Is a Manchester based Ninjatune DJ and producer, whose older releases are some of my favorite, especially the Chipmunk/Fish/Happy Band Single.

He rocks, and was kind enough to Play at Danny's once for the meager fee of $200 and drinks. His sets are known to span musical genres while moving the feet -- to this end, he'll spin on up to 4 turntables at once, and I would guess incorporates some digital shit in there as well.

In any case, my boy pointed out a great streamable set on BBC's Radio 1. Pretty cool that they include the track listing (holy shit, it's mostly his stuff!), although I'm sure it's done to keep the lawyers happy... Scroll it down to the bottom and see that Ellen Allien is playing on Feb 21. The InterWeb is The Future, but now!

I remember his set @ Danny's well. It was hoppin.

Furthermore, months later, i found myself in Smartbar doing video for Mr Scruff, on his way back through from US tour. Last stop. He didn't remember me from danny's, but i like it that way. Steve Briggs aka Higgs, a fellow englishman, was chatting up Mr Scruff while i was hanging a video screen... i overheard.... it's been oh 5 years or so so excuse the paraphrasing

H: "so what were your favorite shows in the states?"

S: "this one place in SF.. the crowd was great... but was a larger venue. Frankly the first time through chicago, at this little place called 'danny's' was lovely... little pub... really enjoyed it."

and i'm still smiling.

Wow! That was a fun night. i picked him up from O'Hare too in my tiny Nissan Stanza.
