49Minutes and 56Seconds.

49Minutesand56Seconds.jpg

To you, I present 49Minutes and 56Seconds which you will never, ever recapture.

Within you will hear some min technoish dubstep with a few surprises in tow such as a DJ Cam inspired downtemp track from Blasta and a relatively rare and idiosyncratic Tortoise cut, Why We Fight on Soul Static Sound.

Interestingly, this is the first line level, direct stereo recording I've done with my new Zoom H4n. It was originally recorded at 96kps and 24bit. Once you get past the archaic display, the device is excellent.

Bob -- "Keeper" Mix 072710.

KEEPER_1.jpg

Click here to download "Keeper". This is my first mix in almost 9 years, and it's motivated by midlife crisis a newfound love of spinning electronic music whilst exploring the latest trends in the Dupstep genre.

Much like (my old friend) ambient, what I hear within the best of Dubstep is innovation in the sonic and spatial qualities of DJing. Rhythms are stripped and minimal though still complex and melodies an afterthought -- the emphasis here is on the low end. To me this newish mindset sets an open stage for what may be the most diverse electronic genre yet. As such, "dupstep" is a label thrown at many different styles in an attempt to explain the evolution of trip-hop, jungle, drum n' bass, breakcore, garage, 2-step, techno, mintech, ambient, experimental, breaks, beats, bass, out, leftfield, and indie.
